Divide is an unincorporated town located in Teller County, Colorado. The town was named after the Ute Pass, which is a mountain pass that separates the Arkansas River watershed from the Missouri River watershed. The Divide Post Office has been in operation since 1889.
Divide and the surrounding Pikes Peak region have a rich history of gold and silver mining during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This period, known as the “Wild West” era, was characterized by a series of gold and silver booms and bust cycles. Many homesteaded ranches and farms straddled the El Paso/Douglas County line as early as the 1860s.
Today, Divide is a serene recreational paradise that offers a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, and horseback riding. The town is located on the north slope of Pikes Peak and is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. The climate in Divide is characterized by cold winters and mild summers.
